Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail!

Following yesterday’s defeat, I feel compelled to write in the hope of achieving some therapeutic benefits by getting some things out in the open that cannot be done with a tweet, what’s app or their likes.   Let’s start with yesterday’s 1-0 defeat on the 2 nd January.   A must win game to keep any hope of winning the league alive.   Yes, we started positively, playing better than what we have this season.   However, for all our possession, what did McGregor have to do after saving from Griffiths’ shot in 21 minutes?   Our final pass, through ball etc. from most players seems to undo the great work before.   Our final ball and overall delivery from set pieces are rarely effective.   Some players decisions to take an extra touch, not play teammates in or drift into a crowded area do nothing except allow the opposition to grow in confidence and gain strength that they can handle all that we have to offer.   Yes, you may say that this is down to the players once they go on to the pitch a

Scott Brown and 9 in a Row

This piece is a follow on from a tweet that I put out earlier in the week.   A view that some may agree with or not.   I believe that we would not have reached 9 in a row without Scott Brown.   Yes, others have made their contribution and played their part such as Sinclair, Dembele, Rogic, Edouard, Forrest and McGregor to name a few.   Their skill set and attributes have been well received and rightly praised but for me they do not have what Brown has.   A fight, desire, grit, and determination that has lifted us up and over the line, particularly in games when we have been poor.   Challenging referees’ poor decisions and putting pressure on them before the next, quiet words of discouragement in opposing players ears and a cheeky wink and/or smile to opposing fans that causes them to self-combust.  All this as well as being a very good footballer.    Yes, he has had games where he has not been at his best, just like any other player throughout the world and on the few occasions that

The Return to Paradise

There has been a lot of chat and suggestions that this weekends game against Motherwell could involve 1000 supporters at Celtic Park to help pave the way back for more season ticket holders to attend in the future.  Adding another 1000 people on top of those already permitted in a 60,000 seater stadium seems like an easy feat.  Unless this number is confined to a specific small section of the stadium and it is then replicated with larger amounts in other areas of the stadium as we take further strides to the new normal with the ever threat of Covid-19.    At the time of writing, a quick check of the club’s website and Twitter offers nothing to support people’s hopes and substantiate what has been discussed on various podcasts.  Although, I suspect the club are way ahead in their plans.  However, if nothing is sanctioned before, then at least the government’s indicative date of the 14 th  September is not that far off to look forward to.    Although I am bursting to get back, ju

Iconic

As the beginning of the 2020/21 season approaches you must agree that this could very well be an iconic season.   A season’s achievements that would sit side by side with the many others throughout the club’s history.   For me, the club is steeped with many iconic figures, moments and a history that is the envy of many a football club the world over.   You may think I am biased, and probably I am.   Thankfully though, through the expansion of Social Media, the worldwide fan base that we have is clearly evidenced.   It is also magnified through the many tweets, posts, videos and pictures of supporters clubs, bars, homes, friends, and families all partying and celebrating the achievements past and present.     Brother Walfrid is in no doubt the first icon due to him being instrumental in the formation of the club in order to feed the poor and starving people of the East End of Glasgow and beyond.   The next is of course Jock Stein.   Former player and manager whose achievements need

Fan Zones and Their Greater Good

As the country moves towards a new ‘normal’ via phase 3 of the Covid-19 restrictions, some may see that there are more pressing issues than the betterment of the Scottish football fan experience.  However, if you were to align this to the hot topic of how best to improve the downturn in the economy and get things moving again, perhaps the timing may be right.  Clubs up and down the country should be highlighting how they can play their part.  In doing so increasing their revenue as well as that of helping the local and national economy through the introduction of purchasing alcohol, but more so the bigger picture of sanctioning fan zones in and around the stadiums.    Can anyone give me a reasonable answer why I am unable to buy a beer before taking my seat to watch Celtic?  Or why I cannot socialise with family and friends in and around the perimeters of Celtic Park within a fan zone type set up hours before the kick-off.  A type of fan experience that occurs throughout a high pro

Season Ticket Renewals

I decided not to go with this topic to early and tried to let the dust settle and see if in time, Celtic would come out with something that would offer some satisfaction regarding the season ticket renewals.   I like to think myself as being petty reasonable, but my take of the latest statement dated 23 rd June, only appears to raise more questions and further a belief that we as a support are taken for granted.     Please do not take this constructive criticism as me not getting behind the team.   Not the slightest.   I, like many others will support the team as much as I can, getting behind them and share in the glory and success.   What I cannot do, is sit back and accept decisions that appear to have no consideration for all of the support.   The statement states that the club has met with supporters and representatives of supporters group.   I do not know of one person within my Celtic network via friends, family, and associates or even through social media.   Can anyone say

My Celtic Youth

I noted in my inaugural blog that it was a fantastic time for the younger generation to start their Celtic supporting lives and I stand by that.   Some of our younger fans, who have started to go more often than not, probably haven’t seen Celtic lose a domestic trophy and are close to making it 12 out of 12.   This isn’t a cue for a ‘Celtic Da’ ramble, instead another opportunity to say how delighted I am for them all, seeing them pick, choose and support their heroes and sing their songs.   I’m living, dreaming and breathing it all too.   It’s become a part of the match day experience, witnessing the sheer enjoyment of the kids, especially those experiencing the amazing efforts of the Kano Foundation to the young Green Brigade/ Standing Section wannabees.     It all takes me back to when I started my Celtic adventure.   I feel just as fortunate and equally honoured.   I don’t know exactly what my first game was.   I suspect, Partick Thistle in the Glasgow Cup at the beginning of s
